The holiday season brings about so many great things. Malls are open later, stores are having sales, people are happy, and everyones off from work or school. School is out; work is closed. What else is there to do except travel? My favorite part about the Holiday season is the sense of relaxation that comes along with it. Whether you're in school or working, taking some time off is never a bad thing. Although the traveling part is undeniably amazing, the pre-traveling part is dreadful for me. If you're anything like me you pack up all your stuff the day before your trip, get to the airport, check in, put your bags on the scale, and break out into panic sweats when you find out your bag is 5 lb. over weight. Yup, I used to have a bad case of procrastinating and an even worse habit of over packing. Do you blame me though, you never know what your going to need when your away from home.
I've pretty much gone through every traveling luggage disaster possible so here are my 5 tips to make your holiday travel packing easy and stressless.
I've pretty much gone through every traveling luggage disaster possible so here are my 5 tips to make your holiday travel packing easy and stressless.
Tip #1: Roll don't Fold.
When it comes to fitting a ton of clothes in a small space rolling is the way to go. Roll your outfits together tightly to prevent wrinkles and save space. Plus if you do it by outfit it keeps everything organized. When you need an outfit pull a roll out and your ready to go.
Tip #2: Make a List!
Even though I know packing the day before your trip is never a good idea, I still do it. One thing I do to lessen the load is make a list. A couple days before my trip i'll keep a list of all the outfits, toiletries, makeup, and jewelry I plan on taking and/or a checklist to make sure i'm not forgetting anything. That way when it comes time to packing all I have to do is put them in. Also take the list with you in your suit case. When your ready to go use the list as a checklist to make sure your not leaving anything important behind.

Tip #3: Rules and Regulations!
Make sure you’re familiar with the rules and regulations. For starters check out how many bags your allowed to check in for free. Generally the rule is 1 bag for domestic, and 2 for international. But it really does depend on the airline. Some will charge for one bag so be sure to check so your not putting yourself in a tough situation. Also for your carry-ons make sure to check out the TSA’s regulations. The most common mistake would probably be with liquids. You can't bring more than 3 oz. of liquid on the plane. That means no shampoo bottles or even water bottles. If your only allowed a carry-on many drug stores sell TSA sets that are comprised of empty containers for you to put small amounts of all your necessary toiletries. Make sure to put all your liquids in small ziplock bags too!
Tip #4: Take Advantage!
One thing you learn over the years is to never check in your essentials. Most people don't know that typically you are allowed 2 carry-ons - one shoulder bag and one cary on luggage. Take advantage of that! Put all your most important things in your cary-ons. Anything that is of value to you or you cant imagine living without should come with you. Trust me- even though losing your bags is rare and you may think it'll never happen to you it's always best to be safe.
Tip #5: At Home Luggage Scale.
If your a frequent flyer investing in a luggage scale is one of the best things you can do. It allows you to easily get an approximate weight for your baggage , therefor leaving all the airport hassle at home. The best part is most of them come with different weight measurements so you can use them in different countries and easily switch from LBs to KGs. You can pick one of these traveling tools up at any super store like Walmart or Target. |
Bonus Tip: One Hijab - 3 Outfits!
When it comes to packing my outfits I always feel like I need to bring sooooo many hijabs because each outfit needs a different one. For an accessory scarves really do take up so much space! Try and formulate your outfits based of a specific hijab rather than the other way around. That way you can save space and not feel like you had to compromise.
Here i'll show you 3 different outfits for 3 different occasions using 1 Hijab.
This Hijab is Blazing Horizon. I love the Horizon Collection here at The Hijab Souq because they're a good middle between printed and solid. With fully printed hijabs your somewhat limited with options because mixing prints can be pretty hard to pull off. The Horizon collection goes well with printed outfits and will add some flare to a simple solid ensemble.
Outfit #1: The Plane:
This look is perfect for on the run. I paired a simple camel colored knit with blue jeans and some basic flats for a comfy yet put together look.

Outfit #2: Day Time.
This look is perfect for a casual lunch with friends. I paired a simple printed chiffon blouse with black jeans and some flats. To make the outfit a little more girly I added in a black statement necklace as well as a watch and a simple black cross-body bag.

Outfit #3: Night Out.
This look is definitely the fanciest of the lot. The fur vest really adds a trendy vibe and the sleek leather booties keep it casual. The black chiffon top is a step up from the usual basic with it's accordion style detail.
